Meet Lucy (ID5896)
Lucy is a 5 year old sweet heart who is a walking testament to the soul of a dog. She was previously a breeding dog, and potentially a bait dog, with a variety of scars around her head to show for it. She clearly was not accustomed to kindness, and her default reaction to people is wariness. She was afraid of the outdoors, afraid of touch, sound, and was generally very shut down. Over the last few months she has absolutely bloomed - she runs around outside and lines up at the fence for walks, she wants to be in the room with you to hang out, wags her tail and chirps with happiness to greet you, and has started accepting petting. Lucy loves food, particularly cheese, and she absolutely loves a cushy dog bed. In the morning she has her stretch routine and will rub the sleepiness away while wagging her tail.
Lucy is definitely a pack dog, and needs to go to a home with at least one other medium to large breed dog. As a veterinarian I am blown away by her lack of reactivity given her history. She has been perfectly well behaved with every other dog she’s met - all sizes and energy levels, cats, kittens, and children. There is truly not a mean bone in her body. While she does well with all creatures, she seems to find particular comfort in hanging out with dogs that are her size, likely a result of her kenneling history and raising pups of her own.
This sweet girl is also not a very physically affectionate dog, but a lovely companion. She won’t be a lap dog, but she will love your company and walks well on a leash with you. She is a kind, quiet soul, and very low maintenance. All she wants is a kind hand, a full belly, and a soft bed. Any home she lands in will be better for her presence.
