Meet Penny (ID6142)

Meet Penny!
This sweet 5-year-old spayed purebred girl is ready to find her forever home for the next joyful chapter of her life. Penny is smart, affectionate, and always up for a good cuddle. She’s also got a strong love for food—which makes her both a great motivator during training and a top-notch counter surfer. You'll either become the tidiest cook around or have a very helpful four-legged "cleaning assistant." She enjoys long walks and even the occasional hike. Penny has lived with other dogs before, including a male Ridgeback and two male foster brothers- a Ridgeback and a mix breed. While she generally gets along with them, she has shown some protective behavior around food. This may be a recent development due to all the changes in her life and could improve with time, structure, and consistency. Penny is crate trained and to her the crate is a safe haven where she can relax and recharge. During loud events like fireworks, strong winds, or thunderstorms, Penny enjoys some quiet “me time” in her crate. She feels most at ease when it’s covered with a blanket and there’s background noise from the TV or music. This comforting setup helps her stay calm and grounded—often more so than medication. Although she previously lived with cats she has a high prey drive, and she needs a cat-free home—for everyone's peace of mind and safety. As a puppy, Penny underwent corrective surgery for two eye conditions—Entropion and Distichiasis—and has been healthy and issue-free ever since. Because of her tendency to guard resources, Penny would do best as the only dog in the home. That said, she has done well playing with other dogs and during boarding stays, so we believe her challenges could very well be rooted in insecurity. With the right adopter—someone patient, consistent, and willing to work with her—Penny has great potential to grow even more confident and content.
