Chief was rescued from an animal control in Florida after his five-day hold had expired. We will never know about his past, except to know that he had survived for 8 years or longer. We could not comprehend how a dog this age had become separated from his owner. We had many questions that are still unanswered...yet, we knew that this dog was just as deserving of rescue as the many who had been saved before him...but would anyone be willing to adopt an old, gentle dog? After a few weeks in foster care, it became apparent that Chief was also deaf. Would this be another barrier in finding him a good home? A perfect dog in other ways, as he was extremely gentle with young children, and very loving but he was old and he could not hear. The main goal for this dog was to find a loving home where he could enjoy the rest of his life. Florida Rescue found this
perfect home. His adoptive family had been looking for a Rhodesian Ridgeback to adopt. They were looking for an older dog who would probably be overlooked by others for one reason or another...one that would traditionally be more difficult to place. They already owned several small, geriatric dogs...including a blind poodle that they had previously adopted for similar reasons. Chief seemed like the perfect match. On October 6, 2001 Chief became a member of his new family. This is a family who enjoys loving and spoiling old dogs for the rest of their lives. By adopting older dogs, they are able to share their lives and their hearts with more dogs over the years. This is exactly what Chief deserved. This was a huge rescue success!

DESCRIPTION |
Leo came to rescue after his original owner could no longer care for him. He was being left home for long lengths of time and needed a home where he could get more attention. Joell started out as his foster mom. After the first few months it became apparent that Leo had a few problems. Allergies, undeveloped bladder control and extreme shyness. Joell vetted and worked with him and they developed a bond. After a few months the decesion was made that Leo become a permanent member of Joell's and John's family. Boy was Leo happy he didn't have to move again. He also has a ridgeback sister named Samantha that he gets to play with. Rescue is lucky to have found such a dedicated and loving home for Leo. He now has tons of love and attention, owners that are working with his special needs and a ridgaback sister named Samantha to play with.

Jonah, the cute young pup with the docked tail (for some unknown reason) and the ridge that started on the top of his head, has found a new home. Alicia and Ryan have adopted Jonah. He is now living the good life, taking daily walks and making trips to Pet Smart. He is getting ready to start obedience classes and since he is so smart already he should just breeze right through them. Thank you Alicia and Ryan for giving this little fella such a happy, loving home.

Blue who is now called "Lou" has gone onto a home like she never imagined she would ever have. Before, her life was being tied to a tree and exposed to all the elements. Now she is an indoor dog with her own bed and lots of love and attention. She has a new r/r sister named Sudie to play with. She lives with horses and cats and lots of space to run and play. Her 2 legged people Gail and Chuck just adore her and can't believe how lucky they are to have "rescued" such a great dog. We could not have asked for a better home for this very deserving dog. Florida rescue wants to thank everyone who was involved in helping Lou get into this forever home.

Huckleberry Hound was in foster care for a long, long time before Jessica spotted him. He began as a stray found almost 13 months ago. He was placed into foster care where it was discovered he was an escape artist who needed just the right home. Jessica was just the person to handle his needs. She adopted Huck and keeps him very active. He has been to BBQ's and on overnights since his adoption. He loves being an only dog and getting all the attention. Thank you Jessica for giving this very deserving dog a chance at a GREAT life.

WOW!!!! That about sums it up for the home that Patience now has. She was adopted by Kathy and John and once she got to her new home it was like she had ALWAYS lived there. Patience has bonded with both of them and is their constant companion. She wasn't there three days before Kathy and John ordered a fence for their new girl (they thought she would like that). She has lion toys, and an orthopedic bed, plus tons of other goodies. She is also going on vacation to the mountians with her new family. This gal really hit the jackpot when she was adopted. Thank you Kathy and John for giving this love bug a second chance....she knew if she had "Patience" the perfect home would come along.

Fudge is an exuberant, happy, two-time rescue. First rescued from the ditch she was thrown into as a six-week old puppy, and then again a year later by Ridgeback Rescue when her owners could no longer keep her. Fudge's foster mom, Sue, was having a family reunion...Mark and Debbie came down from Ohio for the reunion. The last thing on their minds was getting another dog. Fudge picked Mark and Debbie out of a crowd of 17 people and endeared herself to them. By the end of the weekend they were inquiring about how to adopt this little happy dog. They returned to Ohio not wanting to make an impulse decesion and one month later Mark drove back down to Florida to retrieve the ball of fur that they realized they should never have left. Everyone agreed that the family reunion was a magical time for those who were there. It turned out to be a very magical weekend for Fudge as well. Fudge is now happily settling in with her new family in Ohio. Not only does she get the love of Mark and Debbie but she also has a doggie sister, Alex, to keep her company. Happy Trails for the Happy Tail!!!

Rosie was a stray picked up off a busy highway. She was surrendered to Ridgeback Rescue by the family that found her. She was heartworm positive so while in rescue she began her heartworm treatment. Karen and Barry were looking for another ridgeback to add to their family. They have 3 teenage kids and a 12 year old ridgeback named Shayna who they were certain could ease a new dog into their home and help nanny it. Rosie was adopted by this wonderful family, they will see her through her heartworm treatment and Shayna has already been a calming presence for Rosie, especially during thunderstorms. She has truly become a much loved member of this family and Florida Ridgeback Rescue is very happy to add this family to our circle of Ridgeback Lovers.

Keylee was a stray picked up by animal control with her littermate Nyla. Both dogs were lucky to make it to ridgeback rescue. After overcoming a skin condition called demodex they both found wonderful homes. Keylee is in a wonderful loving home. She not only has Ryan and Beth to take care of her every need, she also has 2 kids Austin and Sydney to play with. Keylee and Austin became fast friends when upon meeting her Austin took her blanket into his room and said "that is where she would sleep." She also has a boxer named Zawg and a couple cats to keep her occupied. Keylee is a shy pup, but with all the attention she is getting she is settling in quickly. She is just going to LOVE her new forever home.

Copper was surrendered to rescue and immediatley underwent a gruelling, multiple-dermoid sinus removal. After the surgery there were complications. She had to stay at the vet for a week with her incision site reopened and packed. She was then allowed to go back to her foster home where Sue, her foster mom, nursed her and cleaned her and ran her back and forth to the vet for the 73 days she was in foster care. With all this care it was no wonder that Sue and Copper formed a very strong bond. Copper will now stay with Sue as a forever home. Copper is a shy girl who needs things introduced to her sowly. She has two 10 and a half year old dogs to keep her company -- a ridgeback named Donel and a whippet named Max. She also has a Smooth Saluki buddy named Arra that loves to rest his head on her back while they sleep....on the bed of course. This is a perfect home for Copper, she had been through so much the thought of her moving again was weighing heavily on all our minds. When Sue said she was interested in keeping her I think a shout of joy could have been heard through all of Florida. Thank you, Sue, for all your help with our rescue dogs and for giving Miss Copper Top this wonderful new forever home.
